Thirty years leads to this. The Evolution story continues with the recreation of an icon – the Evolution E-Type Low Drag. The Low Drag is a bespoke hand-crafted vehicle that bridges the gap between contemporary and classic design, reflecting modern day sports car driving styles but with an emphasis on retaining the spirit and style of the original vehicle. It embraces the DNA of the original design while respectfully remastering it. The Evolution E-Type Low Drag delivers a peak analogue experience that makes every drive an exhilarating blend of heritage and automotive evolution.

Only a Few Are Destined to Own One

Attention to detail is the benchmark of the Evolution E-Type Low Drag’s coach-built exterior, where all works are completed by hand in our state-of-the-art production facility. In total, an Evolution Low Drag commission requires over 8,000 hours of labour in order to produce a perfect example for each client. Once you have commissioned your vehicle, you will be safe in the knowledge that there will never be another like yours.

A Bespoke, Hand-Crafted

Unlike an Evolution E-Type Steel Body, which can be characterised as a restoration and upgrade of an original E-Type chassis, the Evolution E-Type Low Drag is a bespoke & coach-built masterpiece, with every stage of body forming completed by hand in our state-of-the-art production facility using aerospace-grade aluminium to reduce weight and increase tensile strength. Each panel is formed from aluminium, with every exterior panel being fabricated by hand using traditional English wheel techniques. In total, the body forming process alone for an Evolution E-Type Low Drag requires 1,500 hours of labour over a 3-month period.

The History of ‘Low Drag’ 

The design inspiration behind the Evolution Low Drag was Chassis No. EC1001, the unique Low Drag Coupe produced by Jaguar and designed by Malcolm Sayer with the goal of creating an E-Type that would be lighter and more aerodynamically efficient than its contemporary racing rivals.

Though the E-Type is known the world over for its status as the most beautiful car ever made, what is lesser discussed is the Jaguar E-type’s racing credentials. While its elder siblings like the Le Mans-winning D-type tend to get the plaudits on-track, the E-Type Low Drag coupe, a more aerodynamic variant, showed what the sleek coupe was truly capable of.

THE HISTORY OF LOW DRAG

Unmatched Stopping Power

The Evolution E-Type Low Drag is equipped with 6-piston front brake callipers developed in collaboration with a leading OEM brake manufacturer specifically for the Evolution E-Type Low Drag. The Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) has been fully re-developed with the addition of an anti-tramp system, 4-pot internal brakes and a bespoke handbrake system. Newly cast hubs, sealed bearings and differential casing fabricated in-house in combination with a bespoke differential complete the rear of the vehicle, providing the Evolution Low Drag with razor-sharp responsiveness on the road. In combination, these features mean the Evolution braking system generates stopping power that rivals modern performance cars and dominates its contemporary rivals.

    Adjustable Suspension

    The Evolution E-Type Low Drag features a carefully re-engineered front and rear suspension package, that incorporates state of the art technology, with upgrades that transform the drivability, road handling, and comfort of the E-Type, all whilst retaining the basic chassis elements, i.e. front subframes / /double wishbones and rear IRS.

     

    Evolution Brake System

    The Evolution Dual Servo Brake System, developed in collaboration with one of the world’s leading performance brake system manufacturers, compromises of 6 piston front billet aluminium callipers and 4 piston billet aluminium callipers with an uprated handbrake system to deliver modern braking performance that exceeds the capabilities of the Low Drag’s contemporary rivals.

    Hand-Built 4.7L Engine

    The Evolution Powertrain is one of the most intricate and time-consuming elements of the Low Drag build process. The build begins by stripping an original 4.2L XK engine, retaining only the head and block. All new uprated components are machined and assembled in-house, and the engine is stroked to 4.7L to provide additional power, increased reliability and reduced weight. Overall, the creation of the Low Drag engine takes over 500 hours of labour alone.

    Performance Exhaust

    The Evolution Exhaust System is designed and manufactured in house from austenitic stainless steel, down to each individual nut and bolt being made from stainless steel to bespoke measurements by our master craftsmen. The result is a completely bespoke, hand-built exhaust system that provides an exhilarating, yet tasteful, acoustic note.

    5-Speed Gearbox

    All Evolution E-Types feature a bespoke 5-speed gearbox designed and manufactured in-house. The outer casing is cast to the original design and dimensions so that it will still fit into any E-Type transmission. The casing is then machined to house a completely new 5-speed design to the highest possible standards. Each gearbox is built to handle in excess of 400 bhp and the required tolerances of the Evolution powertrain, and is geared to the requirements of each client.

    Interior Design

    In the cockpit, the Evolution E-Type Low Drag creates a balance between the original interior and newly designed luxurious cabin elements. It embraces the DNA of the original design while respectfully remastering it. Each interior is made bespoke to our clients requirements and is trimmed in-house by our team of experienced trim specialists. Luxuriate in the natural grain leather or Alcantara, artfully engineered gauges and modern finishes.

    Modern Technology

    The Evolution E-Type Low Drag embraces the benefits of modern technology whilst tastefully retaining the design elements of the original E-Type. Air conditioning, electric windows, heated windscreens and headlamp covers, variable power steering, DAB radio, satellite navigation and Bluetooth connectivity are integral to the transformation.
